Background
Graphene has received more and more attention due to its unique properties, such as large specific surface area, high carrier mobility, excellent mechanical flexibility, good thermal/chemical stability, and environmentally friendly features, etc. Zero-dimensional graphene quantum dots (GQDs) exhibit stronger quantum confinement and boundary effects due to their size below 10 nm, so they are used in many fields such as solar photovoltaic devices, biomedicine, light-emitting diodes and sensors, etc.
First of all, the PL properties of GQDs are strong and adjustable, low toxicity, and good biocompatibility, so that they can be used in bioimaging and medicine. Secondly, the excellent wide absorption and narrow emission characteristics, photoelectric conversion ability, electron mobility, solution processability, and UCPL properties of GQDs make GQDs have great application potential in optoelectronic devices (such as solar cells, organic light-emitting diodes). In addition, considering the good stability, biocompatibility, environmental friendliness and price of GQDs, it is expected to replace traditional precious metals and transition metals as the substrate for surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS).
