Surface passivation of perovskite quantum dots is one of the main ways to optimize their photoelectric properties, in which the amino group plays an important role in the corresponding interaction between lead and halide. Improve the photoluminescence performance of purified QDs and effectively passivate the surface defects of the introduced perovskite QDs, which is a reversible process. This phenomenon makes perovskite QDs an ideal candidate device for ammonia detection at room temperature. The quantum dot thin film sensor shows specific recognition behavior for ammonia gas due to its significant fluorescence enhancement, while it shows inhibited emission behavior for other gases. The sensor displays a wide detection range from 25 to 350ppm in boot mode, with a detection limit as low as 8.85 PPM.

The Passivation Mechanism between Perovskite QDs and Ammonia Gas

Ammonia can passivate the surface defects of perovskite quantum dots and enhance their luminescence. When the purified QDs were exposed to ammonia, the luminescence intensity of the QDS changed significantly, while the crystal structure did not change. In the ammonia environment, the intrinsic properties of the emission state of the quantum dots are changed, not affected by the reduction in the size of the quantum dots but more importantly, the conformation and crystal phase remain unchanged during the exposure.
