PbS-PEG-NH2 Quantum Dots

Alfa Chemistry can provide customers with PbS-PEG-NH2 quantum dot products, whose surface is covered by hydrophilic group PEG-NH2, and should be stored out of direct sunlight and in a sealed dark place at 4 degrees. Quantum dots (QDs) are potentially beneficial semiconductor nanocrystals used for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. However, the chemical composition of quantum dots has raised concerns about their potential toxicity. While thorough examination using specific biochemical endpoints is necessary to assess the toxicity of QDs, understanding the interactions of QDs, particularly their uptake and intracellular fate, is also essential to determine their potentially dangerous effects. Clift et al. investigated a series of surface-coated QDs (and amino(NH2)polyethylene glycol (PEG)) in J774.A1 "murine macrophages" in terms of uptake and intracellular fate. Furthermore, elemental transmission electron microscopy confirmed that NH2(PEG)QDs were located in the membrane-bound region at this time point. The data from this study combined with current knowledge suggest that the intracellular localization of QDs may be directly related to their toxicity.
