Applications
Latent Fingerprint Detection
Cai et al. used mercaptosuccinic acid (MSA)-encapsulated highly fluorescent water-soluble cadmium telluride (CdTe) quantum dots (QDs) to establish potential fingerprint profiles. After optimizing the effectiveness of the pH and development time of the QDs method, ultra-fast detection was achieved. The latent fingerprints were immersed in quantum dot solutions on various non-porous surfaces (tape, transparent tape, aluminum foil, stainless steel), and good fingerprint images were obtained within 1-3 s. A new latent fingerprint development method with high sensitivity was obtained by successive development of fingerprints pressed on aluminum foil with the same finger. Compared with methyl violet and rhodamine 6G, MSA-CdTe quantum dots have higher development speed and fingerprint image quality. By extending the exposure time of CCD camera, preserving fingerprints at low temperature and secondary development, clear images can be maintained for several months.
